During the stay at the internment camps, the Japanese-Americans were forced to complete a "loyalty questionairre". The questions were quite extensive and required anyone over the age of 17 to fill out.

Question #27 asked them if they would be willing to become a part of the armed forces for the United States and go wherever the United States wanted to send them.three reasons some nisei were angry over the fact that the government had no right to ask for volunteers like they did. others thought of it to be helpul to their families to leave camp.

Question #28 asked them about their "loyalties" to the Japanese emperor and to swear their loyalties to the United States.
